If you don't, please do.

Advice I give at conferences.

When I was in seminary I heard someone say, "People don't care what you know until they know how much you care." I have been exploring this idea as a teacher for 20 years. How can I make kids feel things before asking them to do things?

Advice I give kids

Love 'em while you got 'em

I was humbled when I was asked to use my comic about a former colleague who passed away due to covid. Take time for the ones you love.

Slight of hand

Love your mother.

My relationship with my family was always a tricky one. Lots of drama. Mom tried to do her best.

The law of unexpected consequences

AHH CHOO!

Danger Will Robinson

Ninja Techniques

Being a largely self taught artist means that sometimes you do not realize how special what you know is. So when I teach a kid something like using tracing paper to try out new designs without ruining the art it kinda blows their mind and shocks me too.

Changes

Some teachers butt heads with their administrators but why? I have been blessed with great leaders. I have been blessed with a lot of opportunities to do pretty much any crazy thing I can dream up. Part of this is because I work WITH them not AGAINST. Thank God for great bosses.

Mad World

Digital Jesus

Covid Youtube church sucked but I was glad it was available. Some thought we should fight the government. Some thought we should comply. God will judge.

I get by with a little help...

A time for resurrection

Another covid comic.

Remember

Bob Dylan was right

The years of your career are for seeing how fluid your life is. Nothing stays the same (for the most part).

Not YO MAMA!

YO LA TENGO!

I was sitting in the parking lot of my daughter's soccer practice. I drew this picture while listening to songs by one of my favorite bands. I called a buddy of mine who runs the gallery at Monroe Community College  (my first college). We talked about having an art show where people made art based on their lyrics and we invited them to come out and play a show for the opening. We are so cool in our minds.

Love, Life and Launch

Punch a commie for your mommy

Countdown in 10, 9, 8...

Set the world on fire

When Normal feels like chaos

Don't be a hypo kids

I am glad to be alive. Don't wanna spend a minute on fear.

Its a great gig!

I would like to self publish a book about teaching. This was a possible cover for a zine I wanted to make for art ed conferences.

Mow mow mow your boat

Quarantine and mental health do not go well together. Its like Chocolate dipped in horseradish.

Wal Mart in a time of Cholera

Can't touch this

Covid sucked but it made for interesting topics for cartooning. I drew a daily comic like this with my students on zoom meetings. So glad we are back to real life.

Snow daze

Being a teacher means that your childhood life of bells, holidays, breaks and snow days continues into your adulthood. It's pretty awesome! I am so glad I became a teacher. Ironic since I hated school as a kid.

Hack Weeze!

It is amazing how much you pay attention to the hygiene of kids when it risks your own life and wellbeing.

Zoom Zoom

Combat pay

5 years ago I came to Cherokee Middle School. It was a Godsend. My former school had been on the decline for years and it had ceased being the school I knew and loved. Heck! I had spent 13 years there. Thank you for the school you used to be but I'm out!

Spooky Dooky

A comic from a few years back. Halloween has always been my favorite time of year. I grew up in that perfect decade where monsters were still a big thing but sci fi was coming on strong. In 1977, with the advent of Star Wars, the monster craze would essential end and suddenly, the world was obsessed with a galaxy far far away. But monsters will always be my favorite.

Music rules. Art Drools.

I spent the day listening to music from my mid 20s. I miss those days but I love how music can transport us (cliche as it may seem) to those places. It saves those feelings and memories in a box and lets us open it up when we need them. Thanks to everyone in my life I have shared a song or 12 with.

Run away!
